why it's a buying signal
New leaders are hired to change something. The first quarter is when they take stock, set a plan and have the most room to bring in new tools or partners before the budget hardens.
They also don't have a relationship with the incumbent vendor. The person who chose the current tool may have left with the old leader.
where to find it in India
- BSE corporate announcementsListed companies' disclosures, searchable by company and date.
- NSE corporate filingsThe same disclosures for NSE-listed companies.
- MCA company master dataThe current directors of any registered company and their appointment dates.
- LinkedInJob-change updates for senior hires who aren't directors.
how long it stays useful
Most useful in the first three months after the start date, in our experience. After about six months the new plan is usually set.
This is our working rule from running outbound, not a measured benchmark.
who should care
- software and SaaS the new leader's team would use
- consulting and implementation partners
- recruiting, if the leader is building a team
false alarms to watch for
- Interim or acting appointments, which rarely change vendors.
- A leader moving within the same group company, who may carry the existing vendors with them.
- Old news resurfacing: check the actual appointment date, not the date of the article.
what to say
Sample Bank names a new CIO, disclosed to the exchange on 21 October.
Hi Riya, I saw you joined Sample Bank as CIO in October. New CIOs often review their stack in the first few months, and with new branches this year, loan operations might be near the top. Who looks after them today?
Every company and person in this example is made up. For the full method, see our guide to buying signals.
